Executive Director
The world is experiencing a period of profound strategic transformation. Geopolitical rivalries are evolving, new technologies are reshaping the character of conflict, and traditional notions of security are increasingly intertwined with cyber, economic, technological, environmental, and human dimensions. These developments demand sustained research, informed dialogue, and a deeper understanding of the forces shaping our region and the wider international system.
The Center for International Strategic Studies Azad Jammu and Kashmir (CISS-AJK) was established in Muzaffarabad on November 1, 2022, as an autonomous, non-profit, non-partisan, and multidisciplinary research center. From its inception, the Center has sought to provide a credible platform for research and dialogue on strategic and international affairs, with particular relevance to Pakistan and its evolving regional and global environment.
Although Kashmir remains an important area of our research, CISS-AJK’s intellectual mandate extends well beyond the Kashmir question. We examine developments across international security, geopolitics, strategic affairs, nuclear policy, cyber security, emerging technologies, arms control, regional connectivity, and other emerging challenges that have implications for Pakistan and the wider region.
At CISS-AJK, we believe that meaningful research must move beyond describing contemporary challenges. It should help identify emerging trends, examine their strategic implications, and contribute to informed policy discourse. For this reason, the Center brings together researchers, academics, policymakers, diplomats, practitioners, and young scholars to encourage constructive exchange and develop deeper perspectives on complex strategic questions.
Our work is guided by a commitment to independent research, intellectual rigor, evidence-based analysis, and constructive dialogue. Through research publications, policy papers, conferences, seminars, expert discussions, and collaborative initiatives, CISS-AJK seeks to bridge the space between academic knowledge and policy thinking.
As the strategic environment continues to evolve, the need for credible research institutions has become increasingly important. CISS-AJK aspires to contribute to this environment by producing research that is relevant to contemporary policy debates while also encouraging critical thinking about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
We welcome scholars, researchers, policymakers, students, and members of the wider intellectual community to engage with our work and contribute to this ongoing conversation.
