Future of Nuclear Power in the World and Emerging Trends

CISS AJK has organized a webinar on “Future of Nuclear Power in the World and Emerging Trends”.
The webinar focuses on the latest emerging trends in nuclear energy and analyzes the crucial role of nuclear energy in achieving global climate goals, particularly its importance in reducing carbon emissions and mitigating climate change. Moreover, we also discuss the imperative of nuclear energy for Pakistan, evaluating its feasibility and strategic benefits in meeting the country’s energy needs. ARO Hira Basshir Moderated the Session and, Dr Asma Shakir Khawaja, Executive Director, delivered opening remarks where she highlighted the role of nuclear technology particularly the importance of SMRs in a comprehensive way. Research Officer Zohaib Altaf discussed Emerging Trends in Nuclear Energy and explored the latest advancements and innovations in nuclear technology, such as new reactor designs and safety improvements. Understanding these trends is crucial as they help us see future opportunities and challenges in energy production
Ali Mustafa discusses Climate Adaptation Goals Through #NuclearEnergy and emphasizes how nuclear energy can help achieve global climate goals by reducing carbon emissions. Ms. Anum A Khan is an Associate Director at the Center for International Strategic Studies Islamabad. Discuss the Imperative of Nuclear Energy for Pakistan
Qurat-ul-Ain delivered the concluding remarks. She argued that Pakistan needs to meet its energy needs while combating climate change, with Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar emphasizing the need for aggressive financing for nuclear energy projects to address the vulnerability of developing nations to climate change. Despite restrictions due to its weapons program,  Pakistan seeks support from international financial institutions and cooperation with  China to advance its nuclear energy initiatives, crucial for energy security and #climateresilience. The IAEA org support and acknowledgment of Pakistan’s strong political backing and technical capacity for NuclearEnergy signal potential progress in achieving sustainable development and climatejustice goals.

Webinar on "Kashmir Solidarity Day " in collaboration with Embassy of Pakistan-Prague

Embassy of Pakistan-Prague and CISS-AJK jointly organized a webinar to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day today. Ambassador Ayesha ali, in her opening remarks, shed light on the challenges faced by Kashmiris, reiterating 🇵🇰’s unwavering diplomatic support for their right to self-determination.
The event, skillfully moderated by Dr. Abida Rafique, featured distinguished panelists from various fields, including Mushaal Mullick, Carin Fischer, Altaf Hussain Wani, Ali Raza Syed, Majid Khan, and Shamim Shawal. The insightful discussions illuminated the plight of our Kashmiri brethren.
Closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Asma Shkair Khawaja, emphasizing the importance of continued solidarity. Let’s amplify the voices for justice and peace in Kashmir. 

Weaponization of the Virtual World

The International Webinar on the Weaponization of the Virtual World, organized by the Centre for International Strategic Studies, AJK, aimed to explore the strategic, political, and security implications of this paradigm shift. The webinar delved into the multifaceted dimensions of virtual warfare, focusing on both global and regional dynamics. Moderated by Rimsha Malik, Associate Research Officer at CISS AJK, the event commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Asma Shakir Khawaja, Executive Director at CISS AJK. The symposium featured speakers such as Mr. Jungbo Lee from South Korea, a cybersecurity analyst who discussed the global cyber threat landscape, and M. Shahzad Akram, Research Officer at CISS AJK, who explored cyber tactics and tools.

Dr. Raziq Hussain, Assistant Professor at Muslim Youth University, provided a unique perspective on regional cybersecurity challenges in South Asia, emphasizing that the realm of world security encompasses not only bullet vs. bullet but also click vs. bullet. Fahad Nabeel, a lecturer at the National Defense University, Islamabad, delved into the virtual world and its implications for Pakistan. The session included a Q&A segment, enabling participants to engage with the speakers.

The webinar concluded with Zohaib Altaf, Research Officer at CISS AJK, offering concluding remarks that left a lasting impression on the discourse surrounding the virtual world and its intersection with global affairs.
