The Center for International Strategic Studies, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (CISS-AJK) organized an international Hybrid Seminar titled “From Article 370 Revocation to the Pahalgam Crisis: Examining India’s Strategy to Dissolve the Kashmir Dispute and the Renewal of U.S. Mediation.” The session was moderated by Research Officer Saba Ghulam Nabi, while Associate Director Syeda Tahreem Bukhari delivered the opening remarks, framing the discussion in a historical and diplomatic context. The webinar was concluded by Executive Director Dr. Asma Shakir Khawaja, who emphasized the importance of inclusive dialogue, equal opportunities for Kashmiris, and continued academic engagement on the Kashmir issue.

Prof. Mohammad Mujeeb Afzal – Internationalization of the Kashmir issue post revocation
• India’s transformation under Hindutva ideology has shifted it from a secular state to a rising Hindu nationalist power with hegemonic ambitions.
• The revocation of Articles 370 and 35A is a calculated move to absorb Kashmir into India’s political mainstream, but it backfired internationally.
• India’s strategic posture is weakening due to ineffective military performance, overdependence on Western markets, and underestimation of Pakistan’s capabilities.
• He emphasized the role of nuclear deterrence, the failure of Indian missile defense systems, and the significance of US mediation in calming tensions.
Mr. Altaf Hussain Wani – The Pahalgam Crisis and Shifting Ground Realities
• The Pahalgam crisis exposed critical security and governance failures in Indian-administered Kashmir.
• It led to a shift in global perceptions, revealing India’s propaganda and the reality on the ground.
• He stressed that Kashmiri aspirations must be central to any resolution and urged that this moment should be seized as an opportunity for dialogue or international mediation.
Mr. Robert Fantina – International Media & US Role
• Criticized the Western silence, especially mainstream media, for ignoring Kashmir while giving attention to other global conflicts like Palestine.
• Described Trump’s interest in Kashmir as opportunistic, aimed at personal glory (Nobel Peace Prize) rather than genuine concern.
• Emphasized that India is violating international law by denying plebiscite rights and repressing Kashmiris, and called for stronger international pressure, similar to the stance on Israel.
