Abstract:
The Narendra Modi led government’s actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), particularly the revocation of Article 370 and subsequent legislative amendments including the Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023, the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023, the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, have significantly altered the region’s socio political dynamics.
This paper delves into the driving forces behind these changes, focusing on their potential electoral advantages for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Key measures, such as the inclusion of the Valmiki community in the Scheduled Castes list, have redefined their regional identity. By analyzing these shifts and their implications, this research sheds light on the intersection of governance, identity politics, and electoral strategy in conflict affected regions like IIOJK.
