Pakistan’s Stance on Arms Trade Treaty

by CISSAJK

The Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) aims to regulate the international trade of conventional weapons and prevent their misuse. While Pakistan supports the treaty’s goal of promoting transparency and curbing illicit arms trade, it has not ratified the ATT. Pakistan raises concerns over loopholes, such as the lack of enforcement mechanisms, unequal application of regulations, and insufficient focus on addressing arms supplies to non-state actors in conflict zones.
These gaps, if unaddressed, risk undermining global security and disproportionately impacting countries in volatile regions. Pakistan emphasizes a fair and comprehensive approach to ensure the treaty’s effectiveness.
