The second day of the workshop on “Strategic Stability in Nuclear South Asia”, organized by the Center for International Strategic Studies, AJK, featured in-depth academic deliberations on key issues shaping regional deterrence dynamics.
The session was moderated by Ms. Tayyaba Khurshid, Research Officer at CISS AJK, who ensured an insightful and structured dialogue throughout the proceedings.

The session began with a presentation by Mr. Zohaib Altaf, Associate Director, who spoke on “Emerging Technologies and Multi-Domain Warfare: Implications for Strategic Stability.” His talk examined the transformative impact of cyber capabilities, autonomous systems, and AI on South Asia’s deterrence equation, and emphasized the need for updated thinking in the face of rapidly evolving technologies.

Ms. Syeda Tahreem Bukhari, Associate Director, followed with her presentation on “South Asian Security Dynamics and the Role of Nuclear Weapons.” She provided an overview of the security landscape, underlining how nuclear deterrence continues to shape the strategic calculus of both Pakistan and India.

The final speaker of the session, Ms. Nazia Sheikh, Research Officer, offered an analytical perspective on “IAEA and Pakistan’s Peaceful Nuclear Program.” She elaborated on Pakistan’s commitment to international nuclear norms, its cooperation with the IAEA, and the growing potential of nuclear energy for socio-economic development under a safe and secure regulatory regime.

The session concluded with a rich interactive Q&A segment, reflecting the depth of engagement and intellectual rigor among participants.

As part of its broader academic mission, CISS AJK places strong emphasis on engaging with students from universities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Such workshops not only enhance awareness about critical strategic and security issues but also foster analytical thinking among young scholars. By exposing students to expert insights and real-world policy challenges, CISS AJK aims to build a knowledgeable and responsible generation of future policymakers and researchers.
