CISS AJK Hosted Webinar to Commemorate the Jammu Genocide of November 6, 1947|
The Center for International Strategic Studies, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (CISS AJK), organized a commemorative session to mark the tragic events of November 6, 1947, remembered as the Jammu Genocide , a dark chapter in the history of South Asia that witnessed the systematic massacre and displacement of thousands of Muslims.
The session was moderated by Syeda Tahreem, Associate Director, CISS AJK.
She emphasized the importance of remembering the tragedy of Jammu’s 6/11, describing it as a testament to the enduring spirit and resilience of its victims and survivors.
Saba Ghulam Nabi, Research Officer, drew a powerful parallel between America’s 9/11 and #Kashmir’s 6/11, lamenting how the latter remains neglected in #global discourse.
She described the Jammu Genocide as the first major ethnic cleansing of Muslims in post-colonial South Asia, executed systematically before the forced accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India.
Dr. Mubeen Shah, Former President of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Srinagar, and currently Chairman of the Kashmir Diaspora Coalition and President of Kashmir House Türkiye, delivered a thought-provoking address on “Cultural and Structural Violence: Understanding the Continuum of Genocide in Modern India.”
He discussed the scale and #brutality of the Jammu Genocide, stating that although history has witnessed many massacres since 1947, few match the sheer scope and organization of this atrocity.
Mr. Bashir Ahmed Chaudhary , Additional Secretary (Retd.), Government of AJK, and a survivor of the Jammu Genocide, shared a deeply personal and historical perspective in his address titled “Tracing the 1947 Jammu Genocide: Historical Roots of Systematic Violence against Muslims in India.”
He recounted the horrific events that unfolded during the massacre, underscoring how state-backed militias and extremist groups coordinated to eliminate the Muslim population of Jammu.
Duke Salman Khan, Founder and Chairman of the South African Kashmiri Action Group, Kashmir Global Movement, and Kashmir Center for African Union shed light on the RSS ideology and its entrenched influence in promoting #Hindutva-driven, anti-Muslim violence across India.
He warned that the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s autonomy has intensified marginalization and eroded the region’s identity.
Mr. Khan also emphasized the importance of using international legal frameworks and terminology for effective lobbying and advocacy of the Kashmir cause on global platforms.
Dr Asma Shakir Khawaja, Executive Director of CISS AJK ,in her concluding remarks reaffirmed the deep and inseparable bond between the people of Pakistan and Kashmir. She highlighted the saffronization of the Indian Army, noting that the 78 years of unpunished atrocities reflect a culture of impunity entrenched within Indian state institutions.
Dr. Khawaja asserted that the continued silence and complicity of the Indian establishment reveal the pervasive influence of extremist ideologies within its political and military apparatus.
She concluded by reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering moral, diplomatic, and political support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, as guaranteed by UN resolutions.
