Dr. Abida Rafique, a Research Officer at CISS AJK, presented her research paper titled “Climate of Militarization in IIOJK: An In-Depth Exploration of Human Security” at the 42nd Zoology Congress International held at UAJK on April 25th. The paper delves into the profound implications of the militarized landscape in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on human security. Adopting the human security paradigm as a theoretical framework, the study explores the complex interplay between militarization and various dimensions of human security, including physical safety, economic well-being, and social cohesion. It highlights how the pervasive environment of militarization undermines individuals’ rights, disrupts livelihoods, and erodes community cohesion, thereby exacerbating vulnerabilities and perpetuating cycles of insecurity. Moreover, the research emphasizes the widespread displacement experienced by individuals in the region, who face threats to their sense of belonging and economic stability, further destabilizing the region. Dr. Rafique’s paper contributes valuable insights into the challenges faced by the population in IIOJK and underscores the urgent need to address the root causes of militarization to safeguard human security and promote sustainable peace in the region.
