A high-level delegation recently visited the Center for International Strategic Studies (CISS) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The delegation included Minister Fasslabend, Former Defence Minister and Speaker of the National Assembly of Austria, Chairman of the People’s Party of Austria (the current ruling party), and President of the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy( AIES), along with Dr. Heinz Gartner, Professor of Political Science at the University of Vienna, Director of the international institute for Peace in Austria, and Advisor to the Commission of the Austrian Armed Forces.
During their visit, various pressing issues were addressed. Minister Fasslabend provided a comprehensive overview of his institute’s initiatives, emphasizing the need for indigenous solutions to diverse challenges.
Dr. Heinz Gartner shared insights from his forthcoming book and engaged attendees in discussions on academic and strategic matters.
Dr. Afsar Rathor, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the risks associated with illegal migration and proposed pathways for legal migration to Europe.
The meeting’s conclusion was led by Dr. Asma Khawaja, Executive Director of CISS AJK, who underscored the pivotal role of Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs) in conflict resolution, referencing her renowned work Shaking Hands With Clenched Fists: The Grand Trunk Road to CBMs between Pakistan and India.” She extended gratitude to the Austrian delegates for their enlightening presentations.
Following the formal discussions, an interactive session took place between the research team and the distinguished guests. As a token of appreciation, Dr. Asma Shakir Khawaja presented shields and copies of her books to the honorable guests.
