The Centre for International Strategic Studies, Azad Jammu and Kashmir , hosted a book talk event featuring Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, renowned academic and author. Dr. Jaspal presented his latest book, Nuclear Arms Control in South Asia, Politics, Posture, and Practices, in a scholarly session aimed at advancing understanding of nuclear dynamics within the South Asian region.
The event began with Dr. Asma Shakir Khawaja and her research team welcoming Dr. Jaspal and other distinguished guests to the CISS-AJK premises. In his address, Dr. Jaspal highlighted key themes from his book, describing it as a departure from traditional analyses that often focus solely on historical perspectives. Instead, Dr. Jaspal offers an alternative view, presenting new insights that develop research on nuclear arms control in South Asia.
Expressing his commitment to Kashmir as a strategic focal point in South Asian security relations, Dr. Jaspal shared his intention to inaugurate his book series from this region. He said that Kashmir’s geopolitical relevance makes it a pivotal site for discussions on nuclear related issues. Dr. Jaspal also noted global nuclear flashpoints, accentuating the particular challenges in South Asia, where, he argued, India has shown limited interest in advancing arms control initiatives.
The event was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Government of AJK Miss Midhat Shahzad, Dr Ruksana Chair Arts and Design Department, Maam Madiha, Maam Saba Israr, Quratulain, faculty of UAJK, and students of IR department.
