Arms Trade Treaty
previous post
Ten years have passed since the entry into force of Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in 2014, marking a step toward regulating the global arms trade. The treaty aims to prevent the misuse of conventional weapons by requiring states to assess arms transfers and ensure they do not contribute to human rights abuses, terrorism, or conflicts. Despite its noble objectives, the past decade has highlighted challenges such as voluntary compliance, limited enforcement, and loopholes that allow arms to reach non-state actors and conflict zones. As we reflect on its journey, strengthening accountability remains crucial to achieving its vision of global security.
